Departing Professor Duro Oni, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, UNILAG, was  celebrated by members of the Creative Arts Department on Tuesday, July 11, and on hand to thrill guests was comedienne, Helen Paul, an alumnus of the department.

Speaking, Prof. Oni stated that after this successful milestone, it is the hope that the department will blossom and metamorphose into a Faculty.

Prof. Oni was Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC), UNILAG and was also a one time Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Head of Department of the Creative Arts Department. Outside of the classroom, he is known as the foremost champion and vanguard of the cause of Creative Arts in UNILAG.

Prof. Oni joined UNILAG in September 1976 and pioneered the creation of the Creative Arts Department.

Students, reputed members of the alumni of the department, staff, lecturers, associate professors and newly awarded professors alike gathered in the department to welcome Prof. Oni back into the department as a professor after his sojourn as DVC UNILAG.

Asides the celebration of Prof. Oni, other professors were also honoured.They include Prof. Osita Ezewanibe; Prof Adepeju Layiwola; Associate Professor, Stephen Olusoji, current HOD, Creative Arts; and Associate professor Albert Oyekhilome.

Also in attendance were the present Dean of Arts, Prof. Olumuyiwa Falae, who conducted the event before handing over to Otunba Tunji Sotimirin.
