Suspected herdsmen, yesterday, attacked Mgbuji community in Eha-Ehamufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State and kidnapped at least 15 people.

The victims were said to have been kidnapped at about 7am on Mgbuji-Agu road while they were going to their farms.

Police spokesman in Enugu, said the command was yet to get a clear information on the incident.

He futher said: “Effort is being made to ascertain the occurrence or otherwise of the incident as alleged, as well as obtain relevant facts that will aid appropriate police actions and to avoid the police being speculative. Further development will be communicated accordingly.”

However, one of the residents, Onyekachi Odo, said some of the villagers, who were going to their farms with tricycles, were abducted by gun-wielding terrorists numbering over 20.

Another community leader in Mgbuji community, Chijioke Ogbodo, lamented the constant attacks by Fulani terrorists without any action by security agencies posted to the area.

“Since they started attacking our community, neither the police nor the military had arrested any of the terrorists.

“We received the information on the attack this morning. We called on the security agents deployed to Eha-Amufu, but unfortunately they didn’t respond to our distress calls. This is our tragedy.”

He, however, called on the state government to act immediately to rescue the victims, whom he said, their only offence was going to their farms to get what they would eat.

Attacks on Mgbuji community has become a regular occurrence since September 2021.

On July 5, the community was attacked by suspected herdsmen in police and military uniforms. Seven members of the community were kidnapped while three others were shot. The constant attacks have led to the death of many residents of the area and its surrounding villages with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
