Osun State Government on Thursday declared Friday, 29th of July, 2022 as a public holiday for the celebration of Islam the new year, Hijira 1444.

A press release signed by the state Commissioner for Special Duties, Olalekan Badmus, who also doubles as the Supervising Commissioner for the Ministry of Home Affairs, said Friday corresponds with Muharram 1, the first day of the year in the Islamic calendar.

He urged the Muslim faithful and the people of the state to use the opportunity provided by the public holiday for the prayers for continued peace and progress of the state under the leadership of Adegboyega Oyetola.

Badmus also enjoined all Muslims in the state to celebrate Hijrah in line with the best practice of the holy prophet Muhammad (SAW).

He sought for continued support and cooperation of the entire citizens of the state for the Oyetola led-administration as it increases its drive towards delivering the much-sought dividends of good governance and democracy to the people.
