Suspected armed robbers on Wednesday evening attacked and killed the Chief Security Officer  (CSO)of the  convoy of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Mr. Idowu Oyewole, at his residence in Akure, the state capital.
The hoodlums said to be three, shot Oyewole, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), when he was at his house on Akure -Owo Road, with members of his family.
According to the deceased’s son, Dare, the police officer was eating when the gunmen entered  their house at about 7pm.
He recalled that his father was informed by one of his neighbours of the arrival of some bandits. Dare said his father  brought out his service pistol and followed the neighbour to his apartment in order to dispatch the hoodlums.
He said the suspected robbers, on seeing his father opened fire on him. He was injured.
DSP Oyewole was not seen until yesterday morning when they found his  corpse.  He died as a rewut of the gunshot injury.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the state command, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the killing and said the command had begun investigation.
The police spokesman said Oyewole was an officer attached to the Mobile Unit of the command, describing the late police officer as disciplined and hard-working.
