Huawei has built an End to End (E2E) cyber security assurance system in an indication of the company’s acknowledgment of the importance of cyber security and the concerns of various governments and customers about security.
According to recent findings, businesses with less than 200 employees lose an average of $2.5 million each year in Nigeria due to cyber threats and Nigerian SMEs are currently highly subjected to cyber-attacks.
According to Huawei Technologies (Nigeria) Limited’s Cyber Security and Privacy officer, Osita Iweze, Organization: the company has established a Global Cyber Security and User Privacy Protection Committee (GSPC) chaired by Huawei’s deputy chair, with business department heads serving as members. The committee oversees cyber security and privacy protection governance across the company.
Most Nigerian businesses have less severe technical defenses, are less aware of risks, and have fewer time and resources to dedicate to cybersecurity.
Certain industries, such as banking and the financial organizations, are frequently targeted by cyber attackers, necessitating high security standards. Cybercriminals frequently target small businesses in Nigeria because they are always unprepared for the threat even when they are aware of their vulnerabilities.
“We are building on industry security development models and best practices. Huawei embeds cyber security and privacy protection requirements into all its business processes, such as integrated product development (IPD), service delivery (SD), and human resources (HR).
This ensures that cyber security and privacy protection requirements are effectively implemented in all its business activities. In addition, Huawei has established an independent cyber security lab which performs independent, multi-layered security verification of products. This “many eyes and many hands” approach to independent verification ensures that our products meet security standards before they go to market,” he said.
He also said that Huawei has built up an industry-leading procurement security management system that prevents supplier-induced risks through 3 lines of defense which include supplier testing, Huawei testing during sourcing, and independent testing by Huawei’s internal cyber security lab (ICSL).
” Huawei builds cyber security baselines into the supply chain process to ensure integrity and traceability from material sourcing and production to customer delivery. This allows us to trace all affected software versions within 1 hour and all affected orders within 1 day, enabling quicker and more effective issue resolution and risk mitigation,” Iweze said.
For service delivery, the company utilises security management system based on industry standards and best practices; transparent & trustworthy service operations system: automated customer data management throughout the data lifecycle based on customer authorization; data security assurance; cyber security work certificates for service personnel; reliable expertise and service quality: 4,500+ professional service engineers; 700+ service project managers and technical directors; 24/7 services.
