Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Ojoto, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra, Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu, yesterday, said he informed the police about plans by gunmen to attack the INEC office.

Igwe Mbamalu, who accused  the police of  not responding on time, said setting the INEC office ablaze has de-franchised many people who were yet to collect their permanent voter cards (PVCs).

The royal father said he personally called the police station at 3am to inform the Divisional Police Officer of the impending danger.

He said: “I had personally called the DPO at exactly 3am on Wednesday, when information filtered in that some group of people came in a white Hilux van to set the INEC office on fire, but nothing was done to prevent it,” the monarch  told Prime Business Africa on telephone.

The INEC was yet to respond to the fire incident and destruction of PVCs.
