A broadcaster, cum Comedian and cum actor Steve Onu popularly referred to as Yaw spill it all in his recent interview with Damilola on his forth coming show titled “PO” and his take on the situation of the country. Enjoy.
Can you tell us about your forth coming stage performances tagged PO?
Alright, so the rshow is titled PO! It’s the normal PO that you go to toilet with, the normal ones the kids uses. It’s written by actor Femi Branch, I’m sure it’s in the 1990s he wrote it and the first ever performance was done in 2004 by late Jaye Aboderin and Keppy Ekpeyoung. And I did the play again in 2009, that was the first time I did the play and it doesn’t really have special meaning than the PO! You pass excreta with.
Why have you decided to give us a 3day show this time around instead of your usual one day show?
So I decided to make it a 3day show because the play on its own is to sensitize people about governance, about the need. And the part the society plays not just the people in power. We are all in this together. We also have to do with I think after now, after this election of 2023, the next time we will be having the opportunity of changing people in power will be 2031. You know, I know it’s supposed to be four years but don’t forget that these guys do two terms. Apart from Jonathan that did just one if we don’t we don’t get it right now, with the way this country has be come now, believe me I don’t know what will be come of us.This here to tell people to vote, go out and get your PVC to vote and then vote wisely also. Not just because you want to get money.vices happening in our society today.
What has changed about Yaw in recent years?
A lot! Yaw has been involved in a lot of movies productions and doing other things. I’m currently on set shooting a new TV show “Sparadice’ it’s coming on star times and some other tv stations. It’s an humorous tv series, so that’s what yaw has been up to. Well, I’m still on radio, the same radio station wazobia FM. That’s what I have been doing with my time.
With the look of things in the country at this present time, how do you think you can use your craft to change a lot of vices in this country?
That is what I’m doing with PO! Sincerely most times, we preach with our craft for the wise.
If you have the opportunity to become the president of this country, what is the first thing you will work on?
If I have the opportunity to become the president of this our great country, the first thing I would fix is the power.I will fix power because the things I have noticed about Nigerians is we are hardworking people.
Government hasn’t provide us these things but we provide it for ourselves. Our lights, security, houses and all…. all by ourselves to ourselves…so if I have the opportunity I will fix power so that people can grow well in their doings. The money we spend our power alone is too much, too crazy! And gradually,we can start to have train, electronic cars.
Despite all the flaws in the country, what exactly do u think the governments are doing right?
This question ooo… laugh out loud. Oya you too answer for yourself o. Is there anything they are doing right? Health, Education,Road,Power, minimum wages is still on how much?and yet cost of living is so expensive, security, children can not go to good schools. You too answer o.
What should we expect as the highlight of PO?
Just keep your fingers all crossed.
Your comedy show FLATMATES has been on for years, what’s the secret that kept it going. You know Flatmates is like family.We started flatmates I think in 2002 or 2003 I can’t even remember again jo! Myself, Basketmouth and Okechukwu Chioma started Flatmates and the rest is history because for now, it’s the number one most sort out for tv series. I will just say it’s grace and we loving what we know how to do, I really can’t say the secret but we loving our craft and giving it our best.
Is Yaw thinking of running any political position in the nearest future?
The answer is a capital NO! I can never contest. Let me just stay at the corner to do and make my impact. Thanks for you time. You are welcome.
