Nigerian-born Ugochukwu Monye is the Creative Director of Ugo Monye, a contemporary men’s fashion company.
The outfit with over 10 years of churning out exotic male hit the fashion scene with legendary Agbada design last year. Remember the most talked about Agbada Egbuka wore at Banky W’s wedding? That was one of Ugo Monye’s designs. “When I was making that outfit, I didn’t expect it to get that kind attention it got. It blew to my greatest surprise all over the social media and print.”
At the recent Ciuci consulting business round table aimed at generating insights that can be used as a guide for business owners in 2018, Monye told Sunday Sun that his mother, who was a tailor, inspired him to become a designer. He also went ahead to talk about his favourites.
What is your favourite colour?
I’m more of a white guy. From day one I love white. Right from my secondary school days when you see my uniform its always sparkling. Even my handkerchief, you can hardly see me use a coloured hanky everything is white.
Favourite food?
I don’t have. I even asked my wife recently what my favourite food is. I eat anything.
Holiday spot?
I have never gone on holiday unfortunately. I went to Ghana recently but it was for work. I think that was a fantastic place (Ghana). I will love to go there again. When I say I have never gone on holiday, it simply means I have never really been in a holiday mood. When I plan one, somehow work would just enter. Now, I think I want to go to Ghana again but not on a work mode at all but on holiday. No work, no friends to see, no shopping mall. I will just go for a real vacation, maybe somewhere that has only water.
Favourite car?
I like the Rolls Royce Phantom. I don’t have one but hopefully in the near future
Favourite fashion accessory
I like my wristwatches and I like my ring
Favourite sports?
I love basketball. I used to play but there’s no time now. I want to go back to it.
Favourite music?
Nigerian music. If you say artiste, maybe Davido.

Maybe Coming to America

Religious leader, I take David Oyedepo.
