A 29-year-old man, Adewale, has allegedly killed his 99-year-old aunt for using her “spiritual power” to stop him from winning Baba lJebu lotto.
Adewale was arrested on March 4 by detectives attached to the Ogun State Police Command.
The suspect, according to the police, had admitted before homicide detectives that he matcheted the old woman because he had an incling that the woman was responsible for most of his spiritual problems.
It was gathered that the suspect, who was a regular player of the lotto, popularly known as Baba lJebu, also alleged that each time he was on the verge of winning the lotto game, his aunt would alter the numbers spiritually.
“Whenever I was sure of wining, my father’s elder sister would use her supernatural power to change the wining number” he lamented.
Ogun State Police public relations officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspect was nabbed on Monday, March 4, 2019, by men of Ogun State Police Command for culpable homicide.
Oyeyemi, said that the arrest of the suspect followed a distress call received by the DPO of Ago-Iwoye Division, CSP Ade Adedoyin, that a man had butchered his aunt, Ebunola Aroboto, at Maraisa Lane, Igan Road, Ago-Iwoye.
On receiving the distress call, the DPO immediately led detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested and the cutlass that he used to wreak havoc was recovered.
He said that the suspect allegedly chased the old woman around the compound with the matchet before he caught up with her in front of the house.
“The suspect severed the head of the 99-year-old woman with the cutlass,” he said.
He added that the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
He stated that the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal investigation and Intelligence Department, DCP Wale Abass to take over the case and to diligently prosecute the suspect.
