Designer Makioba Onigbile entered the Nigerian fashion scene and carved a niche for herself. Her designs are mainly for plus-size women.  You won’t be wrong if you describe her as the first plus-size designer in Nigeria because hitherto, plus-size designs came mainly in boubous, kaftans, kimono and something bogus that would just cover the body and flabby arms. Her designs conceal the necessary parts that the plus-sized are not comfortable with and still make them look elegant, smart and beautiful. During Lagos Fashion Design Week, she displayed alluring and smart outfits for today’s plus-size woman. She spoke with Sunday Sun about her favourites recently.

What’s your favourite color?
My favorite color is pink. Fuchsia pink especially.  It represents the bold, strong woman but before now, I used to like teal green a lot.
Favourite pet?
I like cats and I have four. I grew up with cats, knowing cats as my family pets. So, when I came into my husband’s house, I asked him if I could have a cat and he agreed. Right now, they are even used to my husband than I.
Favourite holiday spot?
My favorite holiday spot is Zanzibar in Tanzania and that’s because I like the beach. My favorite holiday spot is anywhere there’s a beach. I like sand, sun and sea. I love the beach.
Favourite weather?
I like it when it’s not too hot and not too cold. Just a nice calm, tepid weather.
Favourite car?
My favorite car is Ford Taurus. That’s my car and I like it, because it’s quite roomy and comfortable.
Favourite book?
The Smart Money Woman by Arese Ugwu. I learnt a lot about business and entrepreneurship from reading the book.
Favourite leader?
My favorite leader is Oprah Winfrey. She’s all about business ideas, how to put reality into good use and all that. She doesn’t support backwardness.
Favourite fashion accessory?
I like dresses; any lovely, mid-length dress. I also love shoes with five to six-inches heels.
Favourite food?
I love fried yam. In fact, I like yam generally whether boiled, fried, roasted and if yam can be baked (laughs).
Favourite TV program?
I love to watch Fashion TV and Comedy Central. I’m a happy person, so I like anything that would make me laugh.
Favourite movie?
Any animated movie.
