Chief Robert Clarke, Senior Advocate of Nigeria is a jolly good fellow. At his chambers recently, the octogenarian reflected on his favourites with Sunday Sun.

Favourite food
My favourite Nigerian food is pounded yam with egusi or okra soup. When I’m really hungry, I enjoy eating pounded yam with egusi soup. I have no special interest in English food with due respect to the English, except for English breakfast and I can assure you that’s the best thing I enjoy in English food. The English breakfast is well known. If you enter a hotel in England today or in Russia and request for English breakfast they know what to do. I enjoy it a lot.

Favourite colour
As you see me, I’m in deep blue or light blue and that’s my favourite colour. It’s any shade of blue.

Favourite weather
Unlike some other human beings, we don’t like the cold weather. We don’t like hot weather too but warm weather which we find in the lower side of West Africa. So, I prefer the mild sunny weather.

Favourite holiday destination
When I was younger I traveled a lot, now I just like to go and rest by riding the train one weekend from London to Edinburgh and seeing the picturesque and staying in different hotels. I always like to eat the favourite food of that area. The Yorkshire pudding is very good and like I said that’s the only time for rest and sightseeing.

Favourite car
For the past 10 years, I have been riding a jeep to meet up with the nuances of society.
I’m too old to be riding a sports car now unlike when I was a younger lawyer. I had a good Datsun sport car. My favourite car is a Mercedes Benz or Toyota saloon.

Favourite book
Well, to be honest with you, maybe for the past 45 years that I have been practicing law, I have been engrossed in my law books but I have not been reading novels. Rather, what I do in my spare time at home is to do this quiz. I love it so much.

Favourite perfume
I don’t really have any but when I travel, as soon as I get to the duty free shops, I just pick a set of perfumes to give to people and I keep one for myself. I’m not one that is choosy about perfumes.

Favourite music
Afro beat is my favourite music and it’s maybe because I had the privilege of being part of the creation of Afro beat. Fela Anikulapo Kuti and I were classmates right from Abeokuta Grammar School and also had the privilege to form what we called The Young Lobitos. Subsequently, I still played along with Fela.
So, I enjoy Afro beat so much. The other thing I enjoy is RNB these young boys play, even though the lyrics do not make sense but the syncopation is what I really enjoy.

Favourite drink
If not for my age I’d still been drinking beer but I stopped drinking beer though I take it once in a while now. When I go to parties or social functions I take wine.

Favourite leader
I admire Bill Clinton so much. If I look at him, I look at myself, even though I’m 10 years older than him. Many of my traits in terms of my relationship with women, in terms of my relationship with things, in terms of my ability to digest facts and things I relate with him more than any other leader in the world and I admire him a lot.
