Singer, I. Uk @officialiuk has called for Intensified advocacy actions to effectively tackle the unprecedented level of drug/substance abuse in Nigeria.

In a post he published on his Facebook page to mark this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse, the entertainer raised the alarm once again, that the menace of drug abuse was escalating and silently killing multitudes of Nigerian youths.

He also noted that, if many drug abusers truly understood the grave consequences of substance abuse, including the damage of vital organs like the heart, lungs, kidney etc, they would have done their best to stay off drugs. Pointing that advocacy and sensitization make crucial difference.

It will be recalled that the artiste had released his advocacy song titled “Hard Drugs Kill” in January, when he also narrated how he witnessed a particular heartbreaking scenario last year in Lagos, which motivated him to write and record the song. It was a sad event of a young man who suddenly went crazy and displayed violently like a real lunatic, being under the influence of a particular hard drug with the street name “Colorado”.

He also cited the Vanguard News story of a 400-level student of Abia State University who had jumped from a 3-storey building and died, after using same “Colorado” of a hard drug.

The musician invited well-meaning individuals and corporate bodies to join the campaign against drug abuse, in order to also make our society safer.

I. Uk, who is the CEO of Envoy Media and Entertainment, is also a co-founder of the advocacy/sensitization platform called “Nigerian Youths Against Drug Abuse”, as well as a former President of Mass Communication Students at then Lagos State Polytechnic (now called Lagos State University of Science and Technology).
