Few hours after the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji Aje Ogungunniso I, was installed, the residents of Ibadan witnessed first major rain in 2016 in the early hours of Saturday.

The heavens opened its window and sent water in copious quantity to the earth at 4:10a.m, which lasted for about two hours.

Oba Adetunji described the downpour as a sign of better days ahead for the people of Ibadan and Oyo State, adding that it came as a relief to many people as they had experienced harsh weather for about four weeks before the installation.

Oba Adetunji, who was installed as the 41st Olubadan at an elaborate ceremony at the popular Mapo Hall arcade, Ibadan on Friday, spoke through his media aide, Mr Adeola Oloko.

According to him, “I am happy that God has made it possible for me to become 41st Olubadan of Ibadanland. By the grace of God, my reign will be peaceful. Ibadan will experience peace in all ramifications.

“There is no doubt that where there is peace, growth and development will be there also.

“The rain that fell was just a confirmation from the Supreme Being that the people of Ibadan will not suffer. Those that have been working but with little or nothing to show for it, during my reign, they will have a lot of testimonies. The jobless will have lucrative job to do.

“As many people that invest in the economy of Ibadan in particular, and Oyo State in general, will have good returns. Businesses will thrive ”

Meanwhile, a coronation reception, organised by the Olubadan Advisory Committee, headed by former Minister of Special Duties, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, was held for the monarch yesterday at Ibadan Recreation Club, Mokola in Ibadan.

Musicians that entertained guests on the occasion included the Lanre Teriba, fondly called Atorise; and Abideen Olatunji, son of Yusuf Olatunji, the legendary Apala music exponent.
