The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has said incessant destruction of its equipment and staff assault by some consumers had become a challenge in its areas of operations.

Head, Branding and Corporate Communications Strategy of the company, Mrs Angela Olanrewaju said, on Thursday, in Lagos, that in spite of a recent court conviction of eight culprits, the trend had continued.

Olanrewaju said the organisation had spent several millions of naira to replace the equipment vandalised.

She said the conviction of the eight persons in various courts was to curb those infractions against IBEDC’s businesses but it had remained unabated.

She hoped that the convictions would serve as a deterrent to persons who might be considering going into the illicit act of vandalism and energy theft.
Olanrewaju sought the co-operation of members of the public to curtail the trend.
According to her, the fight should not be that of IBEDC alone but for all lovers of development of the society.

“The fight is for all patriotic Nigerians and lovers of development who will not want to allow few criminally minded persons in the society to destroy what is meant for all of us to enjoy,” she said in a statement.
