Three members of a family who were gruesomely murdered by suspected ritualists at the Ibeshe area of Ikorodu, Lagos State were yesterday given mass burial.
The trio, Lucky Ebohdaghe (father), Margaret (wife) and Jonathan (only child), who were murdered at their residence, were buried in their Oyekanmi Street residence.
Their assailants gained entry into their home through the window and murdered them in most horrific manner, having smashed their heads with stone.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for Lagos Police Command, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said the Ibeshe division had received a phone call from one Funso that three corpses were found in an apartment.
When the police got there, he said, the bodies were found in the pool of blood, and were deposited at Ikorodu General Hospital mortuary.
During the burial of the trio yesterday, tears flowed, as angry residents marched to the traditional ruler’s house to register their grievances about incessant ritual murders in the community.
A resident in the area, who spoke on the condition of an anonymity, said the latest incident was just one in a series of ritual cases in Ibeshe since 2015.
He said: “The latest victims were the family of three found dead. Honestly, the house was secluded and surrounded by big cassava plants and bitter leaf plants, especially towards the church building, which might have made people not hear their screams.
“Since 2015, we have been battling with ritual killings targeted at women of all ages. This has been going on for sometime without abating. The practice is to rape a woman in her house and thereafter use stone to smash her head.
“We have just finished the burial of the victims and we are appealing to the Commissioner of Police and the state governor to wade into the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.”
