The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Tuesday confirmed that an abducted health worker in Nigeria has been murdered by her captors.
The ICRC named the worker as Hauwa Mohammed Leman, a 24-year-old midwife.
The Nigerian Government had on Monday said that a medical aid worker held hostage since March was killed by Boko Haram insurgents after their deadline expired.
“The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) received information indicating that Hauwa Mohammed Leman has been killed by her captors in a despicable act of cruelty,” the Geneva-based aid agency said in a statement.
It noted that Leman was the second health worker killed by the captors in a month.
