The Olumegbon of Lagos, Chief Fatai Olumegbon, on Tuesday, told a Lagos High Court, sitting in Ikeja, that Oba Akiolu was chosen by the Ifa, the gods of divination.

Olumegbon and Prince Adebayo Kelani. who testified one after the other after, on Tuesday, told the Court, presided over by Justice Adebowale CandideJohnsonthat there was nothing like a 90-day rule in the crowning the Oba of Lagos.

Olumegbon, who was among the kingmakers, insisted during his cross examination, by counsel to the claimants, Babatunde Fashanu (SAN), that several obas of Lagos were crowned without observing any 90-day rule, while Melanie a former director of education in Lagos State said there were at least six of such occasions, including an oba that was crowned same day his predecessor died.

“Dosunmu was chosen same day his predecessor died, same for my grandfather”, Chief Olumegbon told the court.

He told the court that the selection of Oba Akiolu was divine. “We received the application of those who were selected by their various ruling houses and to ensure transpasrency, we requested that the names be submitted through the Olori Omo Oba.
