Chairman, Governing Council, Igbinedion University Okada, Ahmed Abdallah, on Friday, charged the new Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, to build on the successes already established in the institution and make it greater than the way he met it.

Abdallah gave the charge while announcing Prof. Ezemonye’s appointment  as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.

He said Prof. Ezemonye was chosen because of experience and his qualification, while assuring the board’s support in actualising the vision of academic excellence of the institution.

Earlier, Prof. Ezemonye promised to sustain the developmental strides and academic excellence already established in the institution and to work very hard and diligently to move the institution to greater heights in line with the vision of the founder.

“I intend to build and consolidate on the existing culture of academic excellence and engage our students in academic revolution that will serve as an antidote to unemployment and unemploymentablity in Nigeria”, he said.

Ezemonye is a professor of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Forensics in the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, University of Benin and until his appointment, he was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) with over 30 years of experience.

Prof. Ezemonye succeeded  Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, who had spent 14 years as Vice Chancellor of the institution.

In his speech, outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eghosa Oshage said, “This university will not have any better successor than Prof. Ezemonye and I am handing over to someone who is more than able to not only consolidate on the things we have done and but to take the university to a greater height.”
