Recently, Igbo community in Mekong celebrated Iwaji.
In event attended by Eze Ndigbo Mekong, HRH Eze Uzochukwu Jerome, Ezeneche, High Chief Livinus Akaegbusi (Nnanyelugo) Patron Ohanaeze Ndigbo Mekong, Comrade Victor (Secretary), President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Mekong, High Chief Engineer Tony Abadom (Ugwunso of Mekong),Chief Ikemba and other dignitaries, the event proved to be fruitful as it afforded the group opportunity to deliberate on how to move Igbo community in Mekong forward.
speaking on importance of New Yam festival, HRH Ezeneche described Yam as king of all crops. the Royal father said as such it worth to be celebrated. He added that since time immemorial, Igbo ancestors celebrated the festival which promotes love and unity among Igbo kindreds.
Further more HRH Ezeneche said the festival afforded Ndigbo in the Diaspora opportunity to also key in into the arrangements to continue to sustain Igbo culture wherever they find themselves.
On insecurity, the royal father appealed the President Muhamadu Buhari to tamper justice with mercy by using the occasion of our country’s 61st independence celebration which also coincided with Iwaji festival to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other agitators.
“This measure he said will help return peace to the country”, he said.
