From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

Former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo has urged Ndigbo to fully identify with the candidate of the Labour party, Peter Obiasheisnotjustan Igbo man but the brightest among the other contestants.

Nebo who gave the admonition during the launch of a book on Peter Obi in Enugu yesterday said that posterity will never honour those who shy away from supporting a movement which has the potential to heal Nigeria.

The book titled Dawn of a New Era was written by Chuks Iloegbunam, a former Chief of Staff to Peter Obi while he was Governor of Anambra State.

Speaking further, Prof. Nebo who is also a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a chieftain of the Peoples democratic Party (PDP) said that Peter’s movement from the PDP
to the Labour Party was divinely orchestrated.

“God did a miracle that we may not understand. That miracle is the circumstances surrounding Peter’s candidacy under the Labour Party. When he saw that the primary by the PDP will not be done by the pure wishes of the people, but it will be sold and bought, he decided to leave the party. The issue is not what party he joined because Peter Obi will probably have gotten accolades no matter the party he joined.

“But the strategic importance of joining the labour party is to give it a national structure in a way that nobody will say this

is a party belonging to any ethnic group. Peter Obi just happens to be an Igbo man and he happens to be the best anywhere. We should not be ashamed to identify with the brightest and best. If we do, poster- ity will never honour us. We will be dumped with the dregs and those who diminish Nigeria.

“People say that the party he belongs to doesn’t have structure. Let me tell you one thing, I have never since I was born seen an emergence of a candidate for a political office in Nigeria that there was a spontaneous revolution of joy, accolades, gratitude, spurring up of hope by Nigerians. It has never happened before. People say that it is the youth but the youth are the ones who go to vote. Incidentally, some of the meetings we’ve held to support Peter were not called by the youth. There was a meeting I attended andIwasoneofthe youngest.

“Now when you look at people who are 90 years old supporting a candidate, know they have seen something. So you think that if the other parties had accepted to zone the presidency to the South East, they would have given it to Peter? No,

they would have given it to someone as corrupt as they are; someone as bad as they are; as irretrievably confused as they are.”
