The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, yesterday reassured Nigerians that government is committed to the maintenance of peace and security in all the nooks and crannies of the country.
He said the police would continue to work for the entrenchment of law and order in every facet of the society.
The police boss spoke through the Deputy Inspector General of Police, (DIG) Operations; Mr. Habila Joshak when he visited the Abuja Office of The Sun Publishing Limited.
Joshak, who was accompanied by the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, a Deputy Commissioner of Police, explained that the Police Management Team was aware of the expectations of Nigerians but assured that with the support of all and sundry, the Nigeria Police would remain top as it was always rated world over.
He specifically commended The Sun for its brand of journalism and reportage of issues; particularly as they concerned the police and also solicited the newspaper’s continued support.
“We know where you are in Nigeria; we know how Nigerians view your newspaper. So, we want you to keep it up. We need your continued support and we are ready to partner The Sun for the good of the society,” DIG Joshak stated. He added that the partnership with The Sun in staging security summit which is entering its second edition would be further deepened.
The Abuja Bureau Chief, Mr. Iheanacho Nwosu reiterated the newspaper’s resolve to live by its motto; as the voice of the nation, noting that as a critical player in the nation’s media sector, The Sun would continue to support initiatives that promote peace and security in the country.
Nwosu urged the police to do its best in improving the security of lives and property in the country.
