Mr Wasiu Adesina,Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, on Tuesday assured residents that his administration would do everything possible to secure lives and properties in the area.

Adesina gave the assurance in Ikorodu, during the screening exercise of 50 community guards,recruited by the local government to boost security in the area.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN)reports that the two-day screening of the 50 new recruits,selected from no fewer than 75 applicants, began on Monday.

The screening committee is made up of personnel from the Police,Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps,Department of State Services(DSS) ,and Lagos State Neighbourhood snd Safety Corps(LNSC).

Representatives of Community Development Committee(CDC),and other community leaders are also part of the committee.

“One of our primary responsibilities as a council is to protect the lives and properties of residents in our local government area.

“The current security challenges in the country call for serious concern and we have to be very vigilant and be proactive to address the problem.

“Part of our proactive steps in the local government is the additional recruitment of 50 local security personnel to augment the existing ones.

“Now, they are undergoing screening by all the security agencies ,after which they will be deployed to their appropriate beats.

“Some of them will be attached to the joint taskforce while some will be deployed to different communities as their beats,” he said.

The council boss called for a more coordinated approach to address security challenges in Ikorodu,to create the right environment for investment and development.

Adesina also used the occasion to reel out some of the achievements recorded by his administration so far in health, agriculture, Infrastructure, economy and other areas .

Speaking,CSP Remi Balogun, Divisional Police Officer(DPO) ,Igbogbo Division,and chairman of the screening committee, said that security should be treated as everybody’s business.

Balogun , represented by DSP Adelekan Ewunmi,urged residents to improve on intelligence gathering to assist security agencies in their operations.

“Intelligence gathering is a key component in security business, residents should volunteer useful information to help our operations.

“We should work together so that insecurity will be surmounted,see something say something,,” he said(NAN)
