The Kwara State People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 general election, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaibu Yaman yesterday said:
“I’ll focus on revitalizing our civil service by restoring the hopes and aspirations of career officers whose promotions have been largely politicized.
Yaman made this disclosure through a press statement signed by his special Adviser on Media Abdulwahab Oba stated that  ” I’ll be the governor for the enhancement of the service base promotion scheme; the promotion of enabling environment for the conduct of service operations.
” I’ll be the governor to ensure that appointment and deployment are based on competence, skills, knowledge, training, speciality, and continuous training and retraining of staff. The civil servants will be allowed to play their statutory role as policy drivers.
” I have the vision to raise the bar of our collective achievements as a state with our civil service. I have the vision to raise the bar for their performance and contribution to the positive story of our state. I have the vision to motivate our civil servants to become what our celebrated civil servants of old were: celebrities in their rights!
“To achieve these, we shall be truthful and plain in our dealings with civil servants. We shall not deceive them. We shall not promise them what we can not achieve.
“Our administration’s concern for civil servants shall extend to the pensioners. Concerted efforts shall be made not only to pay their pensions but also to bring them to par with the existing minimum wage. Everything shall be done to pay arrears of their gratuity within the shortest time possible, while we shall invest in and evolve a pre-retirement training program to ensure they live a meaningful life after their meritorious service to the state,” the statement said.
