The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has promised to introduce new skills as subjects into the curriculum of secondary schools in the state so that graduates can be self employed and earn a living instead of searching for jobs.
He said income generating skills like Catering, Hair dressing, Plumbing, Tiling, Computer graphics and several others with which youths can employ themselves would be made part of the school curriculum.
Ize-Iyamu who made the promise while addressing a political rally in Benin City yesterday, said his government plans “to teach our children skills that will enable them to turn Edo into a place where people from far and near can come to, to hire skilled Labour.
“With a certificate in one skill, you can decide not to go further to the University and work for yourself but you will not suffer because you have a skill you can feed from and even use to contribute to the economy of the state”, he said.
The PDP governorship hopeful explained that his dream is to restore the glory of the public school system in the state by providing them with well trained and motivated teachers, equipping the schools with science laboratories, Libraries as well as boarding facilities.”
Meanwhile, Ize-Iyamu has promised that at this time of her development, Edo as a state needs a visionary leader that is accountable, accessible humane and selfless , adding that as an individual, he possesses those qualities.‎
He concluded that as a former Secretary to the State government, Chief of Staff, a Pastor, Lawyer and farmer, he would deliver on the right leadership Edo needs at this critical time.
