Atta, a prominent town in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State is poised to bridge the gap caused by the creation of autonomous communities in the area.

Notable indigenes of the place do not want only to be coming together at home during burials and other ceremonies; they now itch to relate closely with one another at all times.

It was in the light of the above that people from the three autonomous communities of Atta, Egwedu and Umunam Atta, that make the town came together to float a common body known as the Transformation Ambassadors of Atta Nwambiri (TAAN) with which they have started developing the town to stand shoulders high with other towns in Orlu zone like Nkwerre, Awo Omamma, Umuaka, amongst others.

They started with sponsorship of annual free medical missions; laid foundation stone for the construction of modern High Court building beside the Atta Magistrate Court.

These are in addition to the construction of a modern police division solely undertaken by the Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman of TAAN, Chief John Agbasi.

Recently, TAAN laid the foundation stone for the construction of a sports club called Atta Nwambiri Country Club to serve as recreational centre and also meeting point for the people.

During the foundation laying and fund raising ceremony, which also featured the unveiling of the Atta Nwabiri statue of unity, the special guest of honour, Dr. Ralph Ekezie said the projects untaken so far by TAAN would bring about greater development of the community and unite all the communities and villages in the town because, according to him, no community can achieve any development without unity.

Ekezie, who has become a member of the Country Club, advised the people of Atta, to discard their differences and come together for the development of the town because there is no place like home.

Chairman of the occasion and President of Aba Sports Club 1926, Mazi Jude Nwosu was delighted about the initiative and noted that it is a wonderful thing for people to have a recreational centre.

He told them that the development of the club and by extension the town is a continuous process, which every well-meaning indigene of the community should be involved.

Nwosu promised to continue to offer both financial assistance and useful advice to ensure the timely completion of the country club.

Former deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chief Chuma Nnaji urged other communities in the area to emulate the project.

The Eze Ndigbo in Ore Kingdom, Ondo State, Ogbuehi Willy Onyema and the co-chief launcher, Ogbuefi Izunna Osuji, said the event was a pointer that Atta town was quickly bracing up with the developmental challenges facing it.

According to them, with the good heart and unity of purpose shown by the youths and men of the town, Atta would soon witness resurgence in terms of development.

Harping on the need for unity; TAAN BOT Chairman lamented that the creation of autonomous communities out of the existing Atta Nwambiri rather than usher in rapid development in the town in general had militated against its original intention for the agitation and eventual creation.

“For over 17 years, no meaningful development was recorded in these three autonomous communities. The Atta Social Club and Oganiru Social Club became moribund and the social life in the community was taken for granted, ushering in youth restiveness in the land”, Agbasi bemoaned.

He however, expressed happiness that the younger generation whom he beckoned upon, answered his call by coming together to form TAAN, which by every standard is the hope for the development of Atta Nwambiri.

He was optimistic that the spirit of oneness prevalent in the area would usher in fresh hope, love, peace and most especially unity among the component units of the town and the country club would become the rallying point for their people.

Also, President of TAAN, Kelechi Onyekwere assured that the building of the country club would be followed with other sundry developmental projects that would cut across the villages in the town.
