The Imo State Government has lauded the European Union (EU) for completing a total of 60 micro projects in the state between 2014 to 2018 under Niger Delta development project.

This was even as the state declared that new HIV infections are on the decrease while those living with the virus are going through serious rehabilitation.

Commissioner for Inter-Governmental and Donor Agencies, Dr. Ernest Uwaigbo, disclosed this to Daily Sun, at the weekend.

Giving a breakdown of the projects, the commissioner said EU built market, Cassava Meal, Boreholes and Rehabilitation of schools in various communities among others.

He said the micro projects have gone a long way in ameliorating suffering in the rural areas of the state.

The commissioner further said the state is partnering with an international organization, the Global Fund, to provide aid for people living with HIV in the state.

He noted State Agency for the Control of Aids (SACA) has concluded its five years programmes in Imo but added that the agency was designing a new programme which will commence soon.

He said following enlightenment campaigns

launched by SACA, new infections of AIDS has reduced drastically in Imo, while those living with the virus are seriously being rehabilitated.

Speaking on partnership with donor agencies, Uwaigbo said Imo state government has always been prudent in payment of counterpart fund to ensure that projects of donor agencies does not elude the state.

“We have four major World Bank projects in Imo which include CSDP, SACA, NEWMARP and FADAMA and Imo government has not failed in paying its counterpart fund to compliment the World Bank assisted programme.

“This is a new ministry created out of passion by Governor Rochas Okorocha and since the inception of this ministry we have recorded huge success and we are going to do more because the government is giving the ministry huge support,” he said.
