Governorship candidates in Imo have signed a peace accord ahead of the election to keep the peace in the state, by restraining supporters from breaching law and order.

 This was just as the Imo State Police Commissioner, Dasuki Galandachi, assured Imo electorate that the forthcoming governorship election and others will be peaceful, following the peace accord signed by all governorship candidates in the state.

He said the peace agreement by all the governorship candidates was an indication that there would be no violence during the poll. The  Imo police command organised a peace agreement  for all governorship candidates in the State, yesterday.

 All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Hope Uzodinma, Emeka Ihedioha of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Uche Nwosu of Action Aliance (AA) were among those who signed the peace agreement.

Others who participated in the peace accord are Dr. Ikedi Ohakim of Accord Party, Ifeanyi Araraume of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Kelvin Obinna of New Progressive Movement (NPM)

The commissioner urged the candidates to advice their aids and political supporters against electoral violence. He said police, other security agencies and  the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are ready to conduct free and fair election and assured that there will be adequate security during the poll.

Ihedioha, in his remarks said he would ensure his supporters are not found wanting during the poll. He said he will accept the outcome of the election if both INEC and police do not compromise the process.

Uzodinma of APC said he has confidence in INEC and police on the poll, adding that the peace accord would have positive impact on the election.

Nwosu said he will accept the outcome of the election if it goes free and fair, adding that he has confidence in police and INEC.
