The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Imo North (Okigwe) senatorial re-run, Senator Athan Achonu has described last Wednesday’s judgment by Okigwe senatorial electoral tribunal sitting in Abuja which declared the APC candidate, Benjamin Uwajumogu winner as “laughable.”
Achonu said he has already filed a notice of appeal. He told newsmen at his country home, in Ehime Mbano, that the result of the re-run, which was submitted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed he won and wondered where the judges got the result with which they declared the APC candidate as the winner.
“The judgment by the tribunal was a sham and we have already filed a notice of appeal because that judgement is laughable. The result submitted by INEC shows that I won the election booth by booth and yet, the judges in their wisdom decided to declare the APC candidate as the winner of the re-run senatorial election. I am also, going to petition the National Judicial Commission, to investigate those judges who are trying to drag the Judiciary in the mud. I have sent the judgment to so many legal luminaries in the country who expressed shock.”
Achonu commended Okigwe people for giving him their mandate and assured them that “nobody can steal their votes, not even the judges.”
