Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, the incumbent senator and candidate for the Imo North (Okigwe), has called for the cancellation of the National Assembly polls conducted last Saturday, saying that it was marred by violence and ballot box snatching.

This is just as the House of Representatives candidate for Okigwe North, Princess Mariam Onuoha, described the entire exercise as a sham as thugs never allowed voting to take place in several of the wards.

Uwajumogu, who stated this yesterday at a press conference in Owerri, declared that the election was marred by violence and snatching of ballot boxes and electoral materials in most of the wards.

He said, “There was massive violence, snatching of ballot boxes and electoral materials in most of the wards in my senatorial district. Results generated from the conduct of the election were manipulated in Ehime Mbano, Isiala Mbano, Okigwe and Obowo. In Ihitte Uboma, for instance, thugs took over the whole local government. There was sporadic shooting all over and they terrorised the INEC staff and party agents at the collation centre, thereby compromising the integrity of the  results generated from the various wards.”

The former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly said that it was the same situation at the local government collation centre in Ishinweke in Ihitte Uboma, where thugs prevented their agents from accessing the centre.

Speaking in the same vein, Princess Mariam Onuoha said that the whole election was a sham as the people were not allowed to exercise their franchise

According to her, in Osu Anara that APC had won but the result was cooked up and that was the same in most of the wards and polling units across Okigwe North federal constituency. I want to call on the INEC to cancel this brazen robbery.”
