In an efforts to mitigate the impact of flooding, Nasarawa state government has said resident of the state should be at alert following the warning by an Impact Based weather forecast reports.

In a press statement signed by the Director General, Nasarawa state Emergency management Agency, NASEMA, Barr. Zachary Zamani Allumaga, send to Sunday sun on Saturday, saying that there would be prospects of Heavy rainfall in the state especially those residing within riverine areas of the state.

Allumaga further stated that there would be Steady and continuous rains which will increase the chances of surface runoff and flash flooding.

“Low-lying areas will likely be flooded, and river channels and streams are expected to increase in volume and move with stronger currents.”

“Fishermen and inland waterway transporters are to exercise caution during this period, River banks and flood plains will also likely be flooded, those plying their trade around such areas and those settled along river banks in Nasarawa state should exercise caution.”

“Hence, the public is advised to refrain from wading or driving through runoff waters as they can move with
strong currents.”

“It is advised not to sleep in weak mud houses during such long periods of rain as they can cave in and cause serious injuries. The rain events will likely lead to very low temperatures, so the public is advised to cover up adequately against cold, especially for little children.”

Most importantly, the management urged the public to be prepared for this event to avoid damage from weather-related hazards and watch out for updates.
