Lagos Central senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Adesunbo Onitiri, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to meddle with Saturday’s governorship rerun elections in six states, in the overall interest of Nigeria.

In a statement issued in Lagos, yesterday, Onitiri said the ruling party should not use the Osun template to rig elections in these states as it may cause mayhem, conflagration and rioting.

“I wish to implore all patriotic Nigerians and lovers of democracy, including the international community, to prevail on president Buhari to let the votes of the people count for once, and let sleeping dogs lie. We cannot afford another civil war in this country.

“In this coming re run governorship elections, don’t use the compromised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and the overzealous military to rig the governorship election. This country belongs to us all, and we have no other country we can call our own,” Onitiri said.

He said Nigeria is presently sitting on a time bomb and any attempt to further rig the election may set the country on fire.

“At the moment, the Boko Haram and herdsmen  insurgencies are more than enough problems  for our military. We cannot afford to add more. A government that has more interest in elections than the welfare of its citizens calls for serious concern.

“A government that has failed to protect life and property of citizens have no business to remain in power by all means, by subverting the wishes of Nigerians.”
