The Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini has felicitated with the Taraba state government, the people of the state and Nigerians generally as Nigerians celebrate the 62nd independence anniversary of the country.
In a message issued in Jalingo on Saturday, Kunini said that the country may be going through a lot of challenges and may have failed to meet the expectations of many especially the founding fathers, but the very fact of our coexistence calls for celebration.
“I, Rt. Hon. Prof. Joseph Albasu Kunini (MP), Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, on behalf of the Principal Officers, Honourable Members, Clerk, Management, and Staff  HEARTILY FELICITATE with our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, and the entire Tarabans on the occasion  of Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Anniversary Celebrations.
“Recall that, 62 years ago, Nigeria joined the comity of nations as a sovereign state, following many years of nationalistic struggle by the nationalists and the founding fathers for Independence. Therefore, Nigeria’s ability to survive as one political entity, despite the tortuous journey in the past 62 years, is a glaring evidence of its resilience and total commitment of the citizenry.
“As we celebrate the nation’s 62nd Independence Anniversary, let us use the auspicious and momentous occasion to seek for nation-building which entails commitment to work assiduously together to eradicate the sharp divisions and injustices of the past and present, to foster national unity and integration for enduring peace and stability in the polity.
“As we commemorate the 62nd Independence Anniversary of the nation, we should ensure that Nigeria becomes responsive and functional federation of the various nationalities with equality among the federating units. Let us resolve to make Nigeria great again, for it to resume its rightful place as the real Giant of Africa and leader of the entire Black Race in the world with rising political, economic, social institutions and high level of management engineering” the statement read in parts.
