Rivers State Governor, Nyesom  Wike, has advocated the sustenance  of peace and unity as the country marks its 57th independence anniversary. 

Governor Wike spoke yesterday, during the Jumaat prayer to mark the country’s 57th Independence Anniversary, saying that peace and unity were ingredients for national development. 

The governor, who was represented by his former Special Adviser on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Alhaji Mohammed Okiri, at the Jumaat Prayer at the Rivers State Central Mosque, in Port Harcourt, said: “Rivers State Government essentially advocates for peace and unity across the country.

“Peace and Unity are indispensable ingredients for the growth of any nation. We shall continue to work for the growth of Nigeria “.

He thanked God for the privilege of nationhood, pointing out that Nigerians  irrespective of their political affiliation and religious inclination, should pray for the peace and unity of Nigeria.

“We hope that this independence celebration will provide us the common front to solve the numerous challenges facing the country. 

“This is a time for sober reflection on the way forward for this great country.  This is the time to work together to drive development in this country”,  Governor Wike said.

He thanked the Muslim community for their support, assuring them that his administration would always carry them along.

In an interview after the Jumaat Prayer, Chief Imam of 6 Division, Central Mosque, Imam Malik Yahaya, said that the Muslims prayed for Nigeria and the State. 

He called on Nigerians to embrace love, peaceful coexistence and religious tolerance for the country to develop rapidly. 

Leader of Rivers Muslim Community, Alhaji Nasir  Uhor, lauded Governor Wike for promoting religious tolerance and even development across the state.
