Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria Usra Hendra Harahap has called for holistic efforts to tackle the menace of global terrorism.

Harahap, a retired Air Vice Marshal in the Indonesian Air Force, made the call during the 77th national day of Indonesia in Abuja.

Harahap said the menace of terrorism, a common enemy of nations, needed collaboration, sharing of knowledge and expertise to effectively combat.

The Indonesian envoy added that Indonesia, going by its experience, has the wherewithal, the wealth of knowledge on how to combat insecurity and terrorism which it has continued to share with Nigeria and other African countries.

“Terrorism is not only in Africa. All countries have problems, especially about terrorism. That is why we try to collaborate on how to solve the problems. We share our experiences to solve the problems.

“Indonesia has a lot of experience to solve the terrorist problem. We try to share with our friends in Africa and Nigeria. And on the same hand, we get information from Nigeria and other countries that have lots of problems with terrorists.

“Our common enemy is terrorists, that is why we need to have togetherness to fight the terrorists,” Harahap said.

Speaking on the Indonesia-Nigeria bilateral ties, Harahap acknowledged the existing cordial relations between both countries in various fields.

While expressing hope of further strengthening of ties between Indonesia and Nigeria, Harahap said the exchange between both countries can be further and easily strengthened as both countries share a similar culture, and have diverse languages and mixed religions.

“We have relationships in many areas, among which are relationships in defence, scholarships, exchange of information, and training.

“Also, we have relationships in mining and exploration and we have Indonesian companies here. In diplomacy, we have a good relationship. We exchange so many things,” Harahap also said.
