The Indoor Sports hall of the National Stadium Abuja is wearing a new look ahead of the Zenith national female basketball league dunking off with 18 teams tomorrow.
President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation NBBF, Tijani Umar said the court has been redesigned to accommodate only Zenith logo while that of DSTV which formally dominated the court has been removed .
He said all the electrical fittings had been put in order so that the hall would be properly lit during the first phase of the championship in Abuja.
Umar disclosed that  six out of the participating teams would drop at the end of the second phase of the competition in Kaduna leaving only 12 top teams to feature at the Asaba and Ibadan legs of the  league.
He said only the best eight teams would play in the final of the tournament at the last phase in Lagos later in the year with the winners going home with improved prize monies.
The NBBF President  disclosed that the format would change next season  with the first 12 teams playing in the Premier division like it is done in the female league, while the remaining six teams in addition with other incoming teams would play in the lower division.
‘The league next year will be played on home and away basis like the regular league all over the world. We have informed the sponsor and they have given their blessing to it. It is a way of improving the league,” he added.
This will give the players more playing time and it will be easy for us to promote and demote teams just as it is in the men’s league.”
All the 18 teams had been having training sessions at the court on arriving Abuja on Saturday for the competition.
