The Arewa Youth Assembly has said there is need for a speedy screening and confirmation of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmud Yakubu, who was re-appointed recently by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group in a statement by Mohammed Salihu Danlami, said it is in the interest of the country for the Senate to quickly screen and confirm the INEC boss so that he can step up preparations for the 2023 general elections.

Consequently, the Arewa youths implored the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, to reconvene the Senate to enable the parliament screen Yakubu, whose first tenure as INEC chairman will elapse on November 9.

“This will enable a seamless transition and unhindered delivery of service by the Commission, particularly knowing that there are pending parliamentary elections,” it stated.
