The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the elections into the Ogun East Senatorial District as inconclusive.

INEC’s Returning Officer for the senatorial district, Prof. Chris Onwuka, made the declaration, yesterday, at the collation centre in Itoro Hall, Ijebu-Ode.

At the conclusion of collation of results from the nine local government areas in the district, the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) senatorial candidate, Lekan Mustapha, polled 84,929 votes.

He was closely followed by the senatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Adeola Sosanwo, who polled 82,457 votes.

But, as the returning officer was about to declare the APC senatorial candidate winner, there was uproar inside the hall over alleged discrepancies.

It was observed that election results were cancelled in Ward 10, Ajebandele, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state.

It was also gathered that the total number of votes cast in the ward exceeded the number of accredited voters, thus, generating contention between the two leading parties.

The electoral officer in charge of the ward was not available to clarify the issues, hence, the decision by the returning officer to declare the polls inconclusive.

In the same vein, the election results for Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency was pronounced inconclusive by the returning officer for the federal constituency, Dr. Steve Olawale.

Daily Sun, however, learnt that the confusion emanating from the election results would later be addressed at the Abeokuta office of INEC, where all the broadsheets had been taken to.

Meanwhile, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has emerged winner of the state’s central senatorial seat, on the platform of the APC.

Amosun, who was in the Senate between 2003 and 2007, was declared winner of the contest at the Ake Centenary Hall, Ogun Central Senatorial Collation Centre, by the Returning Officer, Prof. Idris Akanbi.

The governor polled 88,110 against his close challenger, former House of Assembly speaker, Titi Oseni-Gomez of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who polled 37,101 votes.

The candidate of the PDP, Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu, came third with 33,276 votes.

Also, son of a former governor of the state, Olumide Osoba, won the seat of the Abeokuta North/Odeda/Obafemi Owode in the House of Representatives.
