Oluseye Ojo, Ibadan

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, presented certificates of return to the governor-elect of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and the deputy governor-elect, Rauf Olaniyan.

Makinde and Olaniyan won the March 9 governorship election on People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) platform.

The official presentation, which was done at the Banquet Hall of the Premier Hotel, Ibadan, had in attendance INEC National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states, Adedeji Soyebi; and Resident Electoral Commissioner in Oyo State, Mutiu Agboke.

Certificates of return were also presented to 32 members-elect of the House of Assembly, including 26 from PDP, five from All Progressives Congress (APC) and one from Action Democratic Party (ADP).

Wife of a formal governor of the state, Mutiat Ladoja; Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Oyo state, Pastor Benjamin Akanmu; Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Dawood Makanjuola; an elder statesman, Michael Koleosho; Director of National Orientation Agency in Oyo State, Mrs. Dolapo Dosunmu; as well as representatives of service commanders in the state were also present on the occasion.

Makinde, who spoke on behalf of the elected officials, thanked all stakeholders for the confidence reposed in them, and promised they will  all work together to take Oyo State to enviable heights. He said the Ninth Assembly would be formed by members of PDP, APC, and ADP.

“Together, I believe we can make a difference in Oyo State. The electioneering is over. It is reality now. It is time for hard work, to give good governance and take Oyo State to greater heights,” he said.
