From Gyang Bere, Jos
The President of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Stephen Baba Panya has described as pathetic the agonizing and terrifying condition of displaced children, women and the aged persons during the fresh attacks in Jebbu Miango communities of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State that led to huge loss of lives.
He noted that the children and women who are homeless, sleeping under drizzling, are wallowing in hunger, pain following the murder of their parents, destruction of homes with foodstuffs and mowing of crops in farmlands.
Rev. Panya in a press statement on Wednesday in Jos, called on the federal and state government to as a matter of urgency send relief materials to the despair persons.
“We call on all the federal and state government to in the immediate, send relief materials to the displaced and distressed victims not this crisis, many who are hungry, homeless and helpless.
“The government should also deposit funds with selected reputable hospitals, for the treatment of the many victims of this crisis, who have sustained injuries of various degrees.
“We further call on all well meaning Nigerians, to be their brothers’ keepers and open up their homes for the displaced persons, provide support for food, water, clothing and medical services to all the victims.”
Rev. Panya said the church will not accept a situation where the incidence will end with no single AK-47 wielding militia being arrested, prosecuted and brought to Justic.
A retired Military General, John Sura has urged security personnel in Plateau to put behind any business and focus on their constitutional responsibility of protecting helpless citizens.
Gen. Sura in a statement in Jos said those saddled with the responsibility of securing lives and property have failed to be prompt and proactive.
“It is no longer news that the people saddled with the responsibility of securing lives and properties on the Plateau are not prompt and proactive otherwise, we wouldn’t have been addressing this inadequacy which has brought tears and crippled many homes.
“The major responsibility of the state is to protect and safeguard the lives and properties of the people within its jurisdiction. Developed societies in ancient and contemporary times are recognized and respected for ensuring the safety of the people and the territory they govern.”
He said “the recent repeated and pathetic insecurity on the Plateau is barbaric, condemnable and unacceptable by a peace loving and hospitable people whose only crime is the passion for success in their fatherland.
“Security personnel must therefore forget any other business and focus on their first job of ensuring safety and bringing to an end the barbaric activities of this agents of darkness.”
He advised communities in the state and security agencies to conduct a 24-hour watch over the nooks and crannies of all areas in the state with a view to flush out the criminal elements.
