General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General Umar Musa, yesterday, doused the insecurity tension in the South East saying that the situation in the region was not as bad as being portrayed in the media.

Army Chief who said the Division was working tirelessly to remove hoodlums from area noted that the insecurity situation in the region was more of criminality, with criminal elements hiding under the cloak of Biafra agitation to commit crimes and terrorize people in the region.

Musa who spoke when he received the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Enugu State Council, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Enugu, emphasized the need for information management and expressed the importance of cooperation between the Division and the media in the fight against terrorism in the country.

Musa, who recently assumed duty as the new GOC if 82 Division, commended journalists in Enugu State for their assistance in fighting violent crimes through their reports but lamented that some residents of the region compound security situation by peddling fake news, particularly on the social media.
