Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), has tasked stakeholders on the need to comply with global standards and best practices to enhance international trade. This, the Council said was the reason the Federal Government issued the recent Presidential Executive Order on the Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria.

Delivering a key note address in Aba, Abia State at a one-day enlightenment seminar organised by NSC, South East Zonal Co-ordinating office, Aba the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Council, Hassan Bello, said by the reason of the Presidential Executive Order, every stakeholder in Nigeria has been mandated to become an agent of change as it affects the issue of trade compliance.

Bello said the seminar with the theme, “Compliance with global standard and best practices for enhanced international trade” was organised to bring the attention of stakeholders to the realities and dangers inherent in non-compliance to global standards and international best practices as well as to solicit their commitment towards entrenching best practices in the conduct of international trade.

In his paper, Zonal secretary, association of Nigeria Licensed Custom agents, Dr. Emma Nwachukwu, regretted that some people venture into international trade without the right ethical values which he said led to losses that at the end impact negatively on the nation’s economy.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Zonal Co-ordinator, South East Zone, Nigerian Shippers Council, Mrs. A.I Okolue, said her office organised the seminar to help re-position the businesses of their stakeholders for an increased stake in the international market.
