From Jude Chinedu, Enugu

Gunmen attacked St. Jude’s Catholic Church, Eburummiri, Ibagwa-Aka in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Saturday and in the process, kidnapped the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Victor Ishiwu.

According to witness, the assailants invaded the church and abducted the priest while he was conducting adoration prayers.

It was gathered that when the kidnappers stormed the adoration ground after midnight and started shooting sporadically into the air, the worshipers, including Fr. Ishiwu, scampered for safety and dispersed in different directions.

According to witness, the kidnappers, who allegedly spoke in Pidgin English and Fulani languages, followed the cleric to the Parish House and threatened to burn the church facility if he refused to come out.

“When the cleric refused to listen to them, they forced themselves into the Parish House through the church chapel, which they cut open. They gained access and whisked him away to an unknown destination,” he said.

The Church and the Police were yet to confirm the incident at the time of filing this report.
