The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), yesterday, lambasted the Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Geoffrey Onyeama over his statement that the pro-Biafran agitators were using uncivilised methods to press home their demands.
Onyeama had accused those agitating for the Republic of Biafra of using uncivilised methods.
He advised them to follow constitutional and diplomatic processes to achieve their aim.
The minister said MASSOB and IPOB have the fundamental right to clamour for Biafra, “but they should be rational and not emotional in going about it.”
The minister who spoke in Enugu after the end of a stakeholders/caucus meeting of the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), then urged those spearheading the breakaway project to critically look at the rules relating to secession.
According to him, those agitating for Biafra “are not speaking for Ndigbo, as they do not have the mandate of the Igbo race to do so.”
But IPOB said the minister only exposed his naivety in an attempt to endear himself to President Muhammadu Buhari, at the expense of his own people.
A statement issued by the Media and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Emma Powerful, said IPOB was not a violent organisation.
“We wish to inform Minister Onyeama, that he only exposed himself to ridicule, as our people have recently united behind us as we march towards liberating ourselves, to the extent that even those who misunderstood us have all apologised to us.
“We plead with Chief Onyeama to enquire from his boss why his people have refused to include religion and ethnicity in the census data. Why JAMB cut-off marks for northern students are lower than that of southern students. Why the entire South-East region is crammed into only 95 local governments (almost at par with old Kano State), why the region has the least amount in the 2016 budget, why the East was excluded from projects billed for the $30 billion loan,” the statement said.
IPOB continued: “All government apologists and agents have repented and apologised to us. You are standing all alone in your fear of the truth. Only the truth can set you free. We have sighted the Promised Land, as we cross the Red Sea with confidence and faith.
