Three students of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, as well as another man, have been arrested by a police special team for fraud.
The suspected fraudsters were alleged to have severally posed on Facebook and other social media platforms as Customs officers selling vehicles seized by the organisation. They were said to have swindled victims of several millions of naira before their arrest.
They were apprehended by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by Mr. Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, after several complaints to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) about their activities.
A police officer told Daily Sun: “The notorious fraudsters, who were posing as Nigerian Customs Officers on social media, had falsely obtained millions of naira from innocent Nigerians under the guise of auctioning cars to buyers. IGP Ibrahim Idris directed the IRT to trace and arrest the criminals.
“After several days of analysis of intelligence on ground and technical support from TIU, two IRT teams were deployed to Edo State and, eventually, four of the culprits were arrested in Ekpoma. They four are Aliyu Sunday, 21, Oricha Prosper, 19, a Business Administration  student of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Shaka Sumaila, an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Electrical Engineering student of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, and Taye Samuel, 21, a 400-level student of Professor Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.”
