Early results obtained from yesterday’s governorship election in Edo State showed opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leading in parts of Edo south and Edo Central Senatorial Districts.
The two leading candidates hail from South Zone, while Central is the traditional stronghold of the PDP.
The result from Edo north, Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha in the South zone favour the APC. In Oredo Ward 2 Unit 2, where the National Chairman of the APC and former governor of the state, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and wife of the PDP candidate, Idia Ize-Iyamu voted, the APC lost to the PDP by 69 to 78 votes.
The APC, however, won in Unit 2 at the same voting centre, scoring 102 votes while PDP got 97 votes.
In Oredo Ward 4 Unit 19, where the APC candidate, Mr. Godwin Obaseki voted, the APC polled 160 votes while the PDP scored 77.
The PDP candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu also won in Unit 26 in Iguododo Ward 5 of Orhionmwon local government, scoring 369 votes to APC’s one vote.
In Ward 10 Unit 1 in Iyamho, Etsako West local government area, where Governor  Oshiomhole voted, the APC scored 752 to PDP’s two votes.
In Iruekpen Ward 6 Unit 8 of Esan West Local Government Area, where former governor of the state, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor voted, the PDP scored 168 votes, while the APC polled 120 votes.
The APC governorship running mate, Philip Shaibu voted in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government area and the APC scored 367 votes, while PDP polled 112 votes.
The PDP won in Mike Oghiadomhe’s unit in Fugar Etsako Central scoring 308 votes, while APC got 214 votes.
Similarly, the PDP won in Chief Tom Ikimi’s Unit 9 at Igueben, polling 139 to APC’s 51 votes, just as the APC defeated the PDP in Gen. Charles Airhiavbere’s Unit 20 of Oredo Ward 1, scoring 259 votes as against PDP’s 208 votes.
PDP’s leader in Edo Central, Dr. F. I. Ulinfun also delivered his Ward 9, Unit 6 with 248 to APC’s 144 votes.
