Gagarawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State has empowered 40 women with flour and spaghetti making machines.
The Information Officer in the local government, Alhaji Ahmad Sulaiman said, in Dutse, on Saturday, that the council distributed 40 bags of flour and 40 spaghetti making machines to the women.
Sulaiman said the council’s Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Ya’u, while presenting the items, said that the gesture was aimed at making the women self-reliant.
He explained that the gesture would also encourage women in the rural areas to engage in productive ventures.
The spokesman added that the empowerment would also assist the women to develop small-scale businesses at the grassroots.
“The gesture will enable the beneficiaries to set up small scale businesses of their own, become self-reliant and employers of labour,” the spokesman noted.
One of the beneficiaries, Hajia Asabe Yargwani, commended the council for the gesture, and said that they would make good use of the items. (NAN)
