After months of foo-dragging, the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), ‎has finally released the time-table for the local government polls in the state.

Making the disclosure, on Tuesday, Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Ahmad Sani Mohammed, said July 1, ‎2017, would be the date set aside for the polls across the state.

The Chairman said the commission has concluded all the necessarily arrangement for the conduct of free and fair election.

Alhaji Sani explained that the chairmen and councillorship nomination forms would be sold at the cost of N500, 000 and N200, 000, respectively.

Alhaji Sani stated that sales of the nomination forms would be on between March 13 and March 22, while party primaries and submission of names of candidates would be conducted between 1st to 9th April and publication of names of eligible candidates would be done on June 25.

He assured all political parties and the people of the state that the commission would do all it cpould within its pacity to ensure a peaceful and credible election that would be accepted by all, he assured.

It could be recalled that the Jigawa state Independent Electoral Commission had earlier announced and made preparation to hold the local government council’s election on the 13th of January 2016 only to later postponed it indefinite ly for reasons of financial discomfort by the state government.

Sani assured that the commission is committed to conduct credible elections that will meet national, regional and International standard.

He therefore seek for the cooperation and understanding of all the major stakeholders in realizing the set objectives.
