Following the suspension of the eight months’ strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), the Senate of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JoSTUM) has announced the resumption of academic activities.

This was announced in a statement signed by the Acting Registrar and Secretary to Senate and Council, Mr. Alex Ugaseh and made available to newsmen in Makurdi.

The statement said the Vice Chancellor, Professor Anande Kimbir, has directed relevant officers of the university to ensure fumigation of the campus and rehabilitation of all buildings and facilities damaged by weather during the strike period to render the campus safe for habitation and comfortable for staff and students.

The statement said the Committee of Deans and Directors had met on 17 October, 2022, considered and approved an amended second semester 2020/2021 academic calendar.

While calling on all returning students to be on campus on Sunday, October 23, the statement said registration will commence on Monday, October 24, and end on Friday, October 28, 2022.

Highlights of the calendar include 10 weeks lecture period beginning from October 31, 2022, while Christmas break starts from Saturday, December 17, 2022 to January 8, 2023.

It also said examinations will commence on Monday, February 6, to Friday, February 24, 2023.

The Vice Chancellor said a meeting of Senate will be convened on Thursday, October 27, 2022 to take more policy decisions for the smooth running of the semester.
