A journalist, Mr Ifeanyi Okali has hosted a traditional wrestling (Ufie Mgba) competition among youths in his Ebem Ohafia community, Ohafia L.G.A Abia State.

Okali who is the Director, ABN TV, Umuahia, an online medium, said he decided to host the competition this year, preparatory to the New Yam festival, to stop it from going into extinction.

“The age-long culture which is on the verge of extinction, usually comes preparatory to the new yam festival in the community and I decided to host it this year not to allow it go under like some of our other cultures”.

The three clans, Ekeluogo, Eziukwu and Mgbaga slugged it out at the grand finale of the competition at Eziukwu village square.

It featured the junior and senior wrestlers, as locals cheered their representatives.

Winners were rewarded with cash gift, even as Mr. Okali promised that the event next year will be more elaborate.

He urged natives of Ebem Ohafia home and abroad to contribute their quota in reviving the culture of the people.

He also applauded the central executive of Ebem Ohafia Development Union, EODU led by the President general, Chief Emeka Mba for creating Chieftaincy and Cultural Committee that will work in synergy with Eze in council of the community to promote sports in the area.
