In the wake of the suspension of judges under investigation by the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu and Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, ministers of Science and Technology and Transport respectively, for allegedly attempting to bribe two justices of the Supreme Court.
The PDP in a statement issued yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said their suspension would give room for a fair investigation into the allegations leveled against them.
Justices Sylvester Ngwuta and Inyang Okoro, who were arrested recently by the Department of State Services (DSS) for alleged corrupt practices, had said their ordeal was traceable to refusal to be induced to subvert justice in the Abia, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Ekiti and Rivers states governorship petitions.
The opposition party stated that if President Buhari continues to retain Onu and Amaechi in his cabinet, in spite of the allegations against them, he would confirm the notion that the, “ entire judicial corruption saga is nothing more than deliberate attempt to blackmail the judiciary in order to subjugate it and make it a rubber stamp institution of the administration.”
